Join us

People whose interests overlap with the projects in the lab and who may be interested in joining feel free to contact us any time. We are always happy to discuss potential research projects that are worth exploring together. In addition to current open funding and recurring departmental funding there are several attractive possibilities both from within Germany and the European Union which we have successfully exploited before. Both the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) and the Life Sciences Munich graduate school (LSM) provide great environments for graduate education.

If you are interested in our research, you may consider doing a research project or writing your master thesis here. The work usually has a bioinformatic and/or lab work component, but there may also be opportunities to be involved in field work if you hit the right time of the year. If you are still looking for a master program you may wish to consider the EES program.

The lab does not live in a void. We are part of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, which offers broad expertise in evolutionary genetic research, including functional genomics, comparative genomics, statistical genetics, conservation genetics, and experimental evolution. We are also affiliated with the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence with strong expertise in behavioural biology, evolution and neurobiology. Our host, the University of Munich, consistently ranks among the top universities worldwide, particularly in the life sciences. Our campus in the South of Munich offers excellent technical facilities and rich opportunities for interaction, including the gene center, several Max-Planck-Institutes and the Helmholtz Centre. Access to state-of-the art computing facilities is provided by the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre. Besides an active evolutionary genetics community, Munich is a a vibrant yet relaxed city with many traditions still alive, a high quality of living and the Alps nearby.
